3rd Goa GM R1: Aadik and Arshiya draw with GMs

Aadik Theophane Lenin and WCM Arshiya Das drew with GM Deepan Chakkravarthy and GM Alexei Fedorov respectively in the first round of Late Shri Manohar Parrikar Goa International GM Tournament 2025. The third edition witnesses the participation of 187 players including 17 GMs, 34 IMs and 6 WIMs in Category A (>2000) from 17 countries across the world including India. The Category B (Below 2000) has a total participation of 285 players. The total prize fund of the festival is ₹5300000. Category A has the prize fund of ₹2500000. Mohit stuns Kaustuv

The reigning National Rapid and Blitz champion, GM Diptayan Ghosh is the top seed of the tournament. He is followed by GM Sethuraman S P and IM Aronyak Ghosh. Jagreet Mishra held IM Neelash Saha to a draw. Mohit S outplayed IM Kaustuv Kundu.

Diptayan - Srrezza

Position after 62.a7

GM Diptayan Ghosh (2569) did not use the best technique in the rook and few pawns endgame. Ideally, he should have won the game much earlier. His opponent, Saye Srreezza Potluri (2042) missed a draw. In the above position, she just needed to give incessant checks 62...Rb2+ 63.Kc7 Ra2/c2+ 64.Kb7/8 Rb2+ and so on. Black should only capture the g5-pawn when there is no threat of a8, for e.g. the king is on a8, then it is safe to take the pawn. Here, Black directly captured the pawn 62...Kxg5?? allowing 63.Rxf2 and White went on to win the game.

The ten-round Swiss league tournament has a time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
