Rathanvel wins 1st Sparkassen Open Lautertal 2024, Soham Das third

IM Rathanvel V S, GM Hagen Poetsch (GER) and IM Soham Das scored an unbeaten 5.5/7 each at 1st Sparkassen Open Lautertal 2024. Rathanvel won the tournament on tie-breaks, Hagen and Soham were placed second and third respectively. Rathanvel drew against both of them. The total prize fund of the tournament combining two groups was €5400. The top three prizes in Group A (>1600) were €1000, €700 and €500 each. The four-day seven round Rating tournament was organized by Schachverein Reichenbach and ChessxDream at Heidenberghalle in Lautertal-Gadernheim, Germany from 17th to 20th October 2024. GM Hagen Poetsch (GER) and IM Rathanvel V S were the coleaders 5/6, heading into the final round. Hagen drew with Antal Mimkes (GER) and Rathanvel also shared the point against Bernd Goeke. Deniz Klein (GER) lost to IM Soham Das. Rathanvel became champion, Hagen second and Soham third. The tournament witnessed a total participation of 63 players - 41 in Group A (>1600) and 22 in Group B (<1700).

A total of 41 players including a GM and two IMs took part from all over Germany, India and Ukraine in Group A (>1600) in this four-day nine round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Schachverein Reichenbach and ChessxDream at Heidenberghalle in Lautertal-Gadernheim from 17th to 20th October 2024. The time control of the event was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
